Paul Segers graduated at the sculpture department of the Academy of Fine Art & Design in ‘s- Hertogenbosch in 2000, and earned his MFA at the Dutch Art Institute in 2005. Besides running UDC-Productions & UDC-Publishing, Segers is also teaching at the Art & Research department of St. Joost School of Art & Design in 's-Hertogenbosch and Breda. He is a frequent guest teacher at GAFA University of Guangzhou and an advisor or mentor in various committees and programs. Segers also writes texts for publications and occasionally organizes and curates exhibitions or projects. UDC is concerned with the human condition, in relation to each other, to technology, to nature and our environments. The work that we create approaches the world from a slightly different angle. Close enough to reality to be recognizable, but just a bit off. UDC works with extreme visual metaphors to be able to see things from another perspective. We work with narrative structures, or scenes. Landscapes or objects are often the protagonists in these narratives. Creation and destruction are recurring powers that shape our world. UDC wants to create a new viable human condition. We believe in the power of the image to shape our thoughts." |
